I picked up this guy on Facebook marketplace for 20 bucks. I talked some guy down from 30$ to 20$. He didnt even try fighting against my offer at all. Im sure he didnt mind selling for 10$ off cuz these things are old and dont really have a use in todays day and age with phones and stuff......
Or do they?
Im super into old school early 2000's tech for some reason. I guess you could call it a nostalgia thing cuz seeing things like this take me back in time. Hell, this iPod was FULL of early 2000's RnB, hip hop, and pop music. It was so funny and cool to go back in time when messing with this thing for the first time. Almost every song I saw I instantly recognized and remembered listening too back then. The gif thats at the top was what was on it before I purged everything and put my aids on it lol.
The whole vibe using this iPod nano is soooo cool. I remember my dad having hella of these way back and using all the time (he STILL uses iPods too this day). The UI design is heavily reminescent of the early days of apple and there post 2000's skeomorphic UI design. This iPod is the 3rd gen iPod nano, so this was made in 2007. So this was pretty much made at the peak of early 2000's culture. I love it sooooo much.
The only thing thats kinda lame about this is that....
But this is the charm of using one of these. Plugging this in with the old 32 pin apple charger to a PC and firing up itunes to transfer music is all apart of the experience of using an old ipod.
But there is no way in HELL that im using itunes to transfer music. I've seen the experience of using that dogshit program through my father who goes through the struggle of using it to put music on one every single time. I've found multiple programs to transfer and sync the ipod WAY faster and easier. People have found ways around the proprietary apple bullshit of the past and have made the experience of using one of these beasts much easier and seamless.
I use MediaMonkey on my Thinkpad W510, and can even do it without any program when you use arch linux. It's nice to breathe new life into old tech like this. I personally believe that mp3 players are the superior way of listening to music on the go. Spotify and youtube are nice but you will never have your own local downloaded copy of your music library using those streaming services. Same with movies and videogames. You dont own the media you pay for on streaming services nowadays. Call me old school, but this is just what I think.
